About Us  

Objectives & mission of the Group:
1) To exchange experience in the field of Vascular Surgery in the GCC region.
2) To promote public awareness in the field of Vascular Disease in the GCC region.
3) To promote professional development and initiate training and research in the field of Vascular Disease.
4) To collaborate and work with the health service providers in the GCC countries in the field of Vascular Disease.

Activities of the Group:
1) Organization of a bi-annual scientific meeting
2) Creation of educational material for the public awareness (posters, leaflets)
3) Creation of a website targeting patients and physicians
4) To conduct epidemiological studies in the field of Vascular Disease in the GCC region
5) To share protocols of management of common Vascular Diseases
6) Creation of a patient registry in the field of Vascular Surgery in the GCC region
7) To conduct and share clinical and laboratory research in the field of Vascular Disease
8) To exchange experience and practice in the field of Vascular Surgery at a regional and international level.
9) To support training and professional development in the field (to doctors, nurses…)
10) Cooperation with local and regional medical and community based societies.

Membership:
Membership of the Gulf Vascular Society is open to all Health Care Professionals in the field of Vascular Diseases in the GCC countries:
A – GCC nationals
B – GCC residents (non-nationals) shall be eligible for full membership as far as they are residing in the GCC countries. Their membership is terminated by cancellation of their residence in GCC countries.
C- Honorary membership shall be conferred to medical and non-medical persons by the Executive Board of the Association. Honorary members shall have the same rights as ordinary members.

The members undertake to accept the regulations of the present constitution.
Application for membership shall be addressed to the General Secretary of the association, countersigned by two full members and accompanied by brief curriculum vitae on special forms provided by the Secretariat.
The application for membership shall be approved by the Executive Board by the favorable vote of the majority of the Board members.

Members’ Rights and Entitlements:
1) Members shall be entitled to attend ordinary and extraordinary meetings of the association with the individual right to vote and to give their opinion in the case of “referenda” relevant to the association.
2) Members shall be entitled to apply for and elected as member of the Executive Board.

Renewal of Membership:
Membership to the Society is for five years, renewable upon filling the membership appropriate form.

Termination of Membership:
1) Upon expiry of residency in GCC countries.
2) Upon resignation from the Gulf Vascular Society.

General Assembly:
1) The General Assembly will consist of all members.
2) The General Assembly shall ordinarily be called by the General Secretary upon the request of the Executive Board. The invitation for eligible members to attend shall be sent at least 30 days prior to general Assembly dates indicating the time and venue of the meeting. A quorum is considered to be satisfactory upon the presence of 30% of the members.
3) The General Assembly shall be chaired by the Chairman of the association or, in his absence by the General Secretary.
4) Decision shall be adopted by the General Assembly by majority of votes. In the event of equal votes, the Assembly shall favor the side to which the Chairman has voted.
5) Those members wishing to place items for discussion on the agenda of the General Assembly shall apply to do so with the General Secretary at least three months ahead.

Executive Board:
1) The association shall be governed and administered by the Executive Board elected from the membership of the Society.
2) Members of the Gulf Vascular Society in each GCC country shall choose not more than two among their membership to be represented in the Executive Board. Candidates receiving the majority of votes shall be elected to the Executive Board.
3) The Executive Board will remain in post for duration of five years. Members of the Executive Board can be re-elected.
4) Those wishing to be elected to the Executive Board shall submit their candidature to the General Secretary at least three months before the General Assembly with brief curriculum vitae.
5) In the event of resignation of any member of the Executive Board before the end of the Executive Board office term, he or she shall be replaced by a member nominated from the members of the same country.
6) The first Executive Board consists of the Founding Members of the Gulf Vascular Society.
7) The members of the Executive Board shall elect among themselves a Chairman, a General Secretary and a Treasurer.

Association’s Finances:
The association shall be financed by:
1) Incomes of congresses, courses, workshops and various activities 2) Donations and contributions

The financial year of the association shall be one calendar year ending on 31st December each year. The Executive Board should appoint Auditors of Account at the end of each year. The treasurer, after consultation with Auditors of Accounts, shall present the accounts for approval by the General Assembly each year.

Dissolution of the association:
Dissolving the association can be decided by an extraordinary session of the General Assembly provided that more than half of the members attend the session and the majority of two-thirds of the attending members is obtained

For matters that are not covered by the current Constitution and amendments to the Constitution, the Executive Board shall have power of decision, subject to the approval of the forthcoming General Assembly.
